Penicillin. Help Others – Help Yourself. Facts & Fables

By now you may have heard this partly fairy tale but it is worth to repeat it. Not word for word, but in the sense I want you to listen and understand. It sounds unbelievable.

One day a poor Scottish farmer with the name Hugh Fleming heard a cry of someone for help. It turned out that a boy (born 30 November 1874) was up to his waist in black mud, incapable to help himself out and destined to a slow death. The farmer, who followed the voice, helped the boy out of his dangerous situation.

The next day a carriage from an obvious rich person stopped at his home and a so called nobleman stepped out. He was the father of the boy the farmer Fleming has saved.

This nobleman wanted to pay the farmer for his help but Fleming refused. For him helping other peoples was naturally and did not required any kind of payment.

While those two adults talked, the son of the farmer (born 6 August 1881) appeared from he house. He was seven years older than the boy his father has saved.

The nobleman recognized this and he changed his strategy. Instead of offering money, he offered education. He said, the boy of Fleming will get the same education like his son as he believes that the son of the farmer Fleming will undoubtful develop to the same kind of person as his farther was.

The farmer Fleming agreed. It was an offer of a lifetime. What else he could offer to his son?

Actually, according to the biography, Penicillin Man, the story above is a fable and false. But think about it…it could have happened.

In any case, Alec Fleming, his sun, attended the Loudoun Moor School, the Darvel School, and earned a two-year scholarship to Kilmarnock Academy before moving to London where he attended the Royal Polytechnic Institution and later the Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London. He became Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin in 1928! That brought him a shared Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1945.

The aristocratic man’s son developed years later pneumonia – and what helped him? The Penicillin from Sir Alexander Fleming. But this statement is a fable, too. Churchill was saved by Lord Moran, using sulfonamides, since he had no experience with penicillin at this time. But without doubt, penicillin help millions throughout the world since then.

The nobleman talked earlier was Lord Randolph Churchill and his son became Sir Winston Churchill, the British prime minister of the UK who served two terms. One term during the Second World War 1940-45 and a second term after it in 1951-55. Perhaps not so known, he got also the Nobel Prize in Literature.

The story may be a fairy tale to some degree and not exactly after the facts but helping others can make circles you never thought about. We should do so without thinking to much about possible benefits for ourselves.

penicillin, sir alexander fleming, sulfonamides, lord moran, british prime minister, second world war, sir winston churchill

No Money – No Friends!

Surely you have discovered it once in a while: As soon as you are short of money, your ‘friends’ are looking for ways to avoid you.

It isn’t always the case that your friends do not have the means to help you, but rather your own trust level is for them at a maximum low. Nobody believes that you can pay back, not to speak doing so in time. You are alone.

There is a lesson that can be learned here: Never tell anybody that your budget is low and that you actually need help. If you are in business, that rule is even mandatory: Who wants to buy items from anyone who is standing obviously near bankruptcy? If you do, you have also no more clients who believe always that only bona fides companies will be able to provide support that eventually is needed in the future.

Perhaps it would be time then to look at it in another way: Changing strategies, finding JV partners for projects not even yet started etc.

Video: With No Money we are Equally Poor

It is hard to play with a poker face of winning when your cards show otherwise. But asking for money spells out trouble. News about it will travel at light-speed even to peoples who never have heard from you. And what will happen? They might knock on your door, too.

So what to do?

First, do brainstorming with yourself and list all possibilities you may have to get money into your hands. Select carefully your options but list everything what comes into your mind.

Second, do not always listen to your closest family who do think that every of your ideas are nuts. They do not know them until tried. They give up to early. They might have useful ideas of their own, but that don’t mean your ones will not work.

Third, go into practice and see if you can find even more possible information who might be able to help you. It can be surprising to you what you might find out and what you forgot in your initial brainstorming session. Perhaps a quiet place promotes your thinking.

Fourth, don’t give up, ever! Yes, sometimes there is just no way what you can do else but don’t let your own pessimism overwhelm you. Stay positive until deadlines arrives and even so, wonders can happen the last moment. It is however not time for dreaming but rather for prepared action steps you have previously outlined. If plan A does not work, try plan B or C.

Having no money and obviously no funds of any kind is not fun at all, but we all came into this situation once in a while. Important is to find the niche of opportunities you never thought the did exist, but don’t let time pressure force you into actions you do find questionable.

Yes, if all fails, it is depressing but again, no reason to give up. Live continues and from failures we might learn. To get back to a real bona fides status might be a long way, but who ever said that the ups and downs of a life is without effect on you?

Sometimes I think you can do only so much. But in honesty, most are sitting in their comfort zone simply too long without preparing for the future, might it bad or good.

Once you got your money back, so are your friends. But at that time you know exactly who is one and who is not.

no money, no friends, no funds, get funds, ideas, action steps, opportunities

Do you like Politics?

Daily Serious Fun in Politics

If you think about it deeply, you can feel that with all your heart, that politics is a very serious business. After all, you may have selected the peoples to do what you want or need.

But if you care to read the newspapers – sometimes between the lines – you find out that many of the politicians actually doing exactly the opposite of what they have promised. Sometimes it is fun when they start a fight in the parliament for their rights (not yours) but unfortunately, you do not see that kind of entertainment often.

Yet, if you don’t expect too much from your representatives, it could be really fun watching them how they struggle to keep in power while on the same time they try to show you that they have done something for you while in guarded office – and perhaps something more for them you don’t need to know: Hidden treasures!

Politician are like children playing with toys which are far too dangerous for them and which they do not understand. The only thing is, they are not aware of it, even at their advanced age.

In fact, politicians are a kind of balance artists. They have to walk on a small string every day and that in heights you can’t even breath. One mistake and they fall down. Not only will kill the fall them right away but they will be eaten also by the hungry wolves waiting below, without exceptions. Note that most on the top fall down, earlier or later…!

But hey, we should not take that business to serious. In the good old days you could not rely on democracy, whatever that means today. There was always somewhere an almost naked bully who was swinging his club, and that was the message. No confusion, but a clear statement. No lie either.

Well, two million years ago the life seemed so much easier. But that view is an illusion like it is today for the highly organized homo sapiens, who might not meet ends. Then and there, you had to fight for your survival personally.

No representative, no lawyer.

But nowadays, how many can truly say they have the money to hire for help? Only the rich of course, with their kind of bullies of every color on their side.

Yet, surprisingly, the females had always the last words in the old days. Hidden. Until today. And for sure, a long way into the future. What a luck for the mankind and especially for the politician.

You don’t believe it? Watch your family what all these females are doing there and how they influence heavily anyone in there vicinity and beyond. Do you think a politician is listening to his mandate or his wife?

In my family are only females and I’m vastly outnumbered. And who is the captain? My very strong wife!
